After 20 years of hosting, Clearstory Radio on WRFN in Nashville I moved to the North Carolina Coast and embraced the beach and the return to my saltwater roots. But all the while I had this idea for a podcast that was a bit – on location. Something a little different. Akin to Clearstory but one that allowed people to explore their passions and discuss them over a drink of their choosing. The kind of conversations that often happen when authors gather in the bar after a long day of being on the road, talking on panels, and presentations at book festivals. I loved those nights for years as an author on book tour. I loved the slow sips of bourbon as we discussed the 'business' of writing, and moved off of that topic to how passionate we remained about the power of story. Then to our hopes and dreams about the future. And, finally, to the most recent we'd loved, music we were now addicted to, our latest Red Wine find, what show or streaming show we were consuming voraciously. That’s what I wanted. The conversations that ran all over the place, down rabbit holes and back up again. The ones that led no where and everywhere at once. Where the guards are dropped, and an absence of presence prevails.
I was asked a question years during an author interview that I have never forgotten – If you want to really get to know someone what do you ask them? Simple. I ask them – Who do you love? That has led me to getting to know a lot of people much better. People I’ve known for years and traveled with in literary circles. But then when I ask this question and they begin to explain to me it is Prince and why – I am captivated and see a side of them I never knew existed. Enter - God On The Rocks - the concept of a great city with an incredible calendar of events and fun happenings. All played out and discussed in a virtual jazz and blues bar located in The City by the Bay where travelers come because something related to that passion is happening.
And what better job to welcome travelers than bartending at the coolest bar in town. Soulful conversations about the things we love. Seems the perfect ticket right now to delve into the wonders of living this amazing life.
